Actor Yami Gautam has responded to controversy after her social media account was seen liking a reel that appeared to mock Kriti Sanon’s recent Best Actress win at an award show. The incident, which caught attention on March 5, prompted Gautam to issue a statement explaining that the interaction was a mistake and not meant to target any fellow actor. She emphasised that being tagged in numerous posts daily can sometimes lead to unintended engagement with content.
The Haq actor shared a post midnight on X that read, “It has come to my notice that I apparently ‘liked’ a reel that is condescending toward another actor. We get tagged in multiple things every day, and this appeared during an award function reference like any other tag. It isn’t true and was definitely not done consciously; if anything, it may have been clicked accidentally (sic).”
The actor further clarified, “Never in my life have I resorted to cheap PR tactics. I have always focused on my work and moved on. In the world of clickbait, it’s tempting for even dignified social media portals to harp on this and turn it into coffee-table gossip. But I would hope they would consider that I have earned a better reputation than that (sic).”
“I have no PR team, have respectfully cleared my stance on entertainment award shows long ago, and remain focused on my work (sic),” she concluded.
The controversy emerged after Kriti Sanon won Best Actress at the Zee Cine Awards for her performance in Tere Ishk Mein. Some fans on social media contended that Gautam should have received the award for her role in Haq. The reel in question featured Sanon celebrating her victory, juxtaposed with a previous interview clip where Gautam commented, “You try everything, and it still doesn’t work. So, I’ve stopped seeking any kind of validation. If I get that award, then I am a good actress, and otherwise, I’m not. Nothing like that.” The video concluded with the question, “Is it fair?”
On the work front, Kriti Sanon was most recently seen in Tere Ishk Mein alongside Dhanush, while Yami Gautam starred in the courtroom drama Haq with Emraan Hashmi and Sheeba Chaddha.
