The US Department of State has announced the suspension of operations at the US Embassy in Kuwait City.
While no injuries to US personnel have been reported, the department said the safety of Americans abroad remains its highest priority.
The travel advisory for Kuwait remains at Level 3: Reconsider Travel, the department said, urging US citizens to consult the latest travel advisory and country information available at travel.state.gov.
The department advised US citizens in Kuwait to depart the country if they can do so safely using commercial or other available transportation options. Those unable to leave were advised to shelter in place.
US citizens requiring emergency assistance, including consular services or information on available departure options, may contact the Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs 24/7 at +1-202-501-4444 (from abroad) or +1-888-407-4747 (from the United States and Canada).
The department also strongly encouraged US citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov to receive security updates from the nearest US embassy or consulate.
