The critically acclaimed series The Bear will conclude with its fifth season, which is currently being filmed in and around Chicago. Produced by FX and streaming on Hulu, the show has become one of television’s most celebrated dramas, blending the chaos of restaurant life with deeply personal storytelling.
The final season is expected to premiere later this year, with previous instalments typically released as binge drops in late June. Actor Jamie Lee Curtis, who portrays Donna Berzatto – the troubled mother of Carmy and Natalie – recently confirmed the show’s impending end. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Curtis addressed speculation sparked by a social media post in which she referred to “completing the story” of the series.
“It is the end of the show,” Curtis said, adding that the conclusion had always been part of the plan. “Everybody knows it’s the end of the show. I’m not breaking any news to anybody. It’s the end of the show — they’ve said it from the beginning.”
FX has not officially issued a statement regarding Curtis’s remarks. The production company declined to comment when approached.
However, the possibility of a finite storyline for The Bear has been discussed for some time. Jeremy Allen White, who plays chef Carmy Berzatto, had previously indicated that creator Christopher Storer envisioned the show as a limited narrative arc rather than an open-ended series. In earlier interviews, White noted that Storer initially planned the story to unfold across four seasons.
Season four appeared to move firmly in that direction. The finale episode, titled Goodbye, saw Carmy making a pivotal decision to step away from his restaurant and the culinary world, signalling a potential emotional and narrative resolution for the character.
Since its debut in 2022, The Bear has stood out for its intense, fast-paced portrayal of kitchen life while also exploring themes of grief, trauma, ambition, and family. Its sharp writing, layered characters, and immersive direction have earned widespread critical acclaim.
The show has also been a major awards contender. Across its first three seasons, The Bear has won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, including the award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2023. Several cast members have also received acting honours for their performances.
Alongside Jeremy Allen White, the ensemble cast features Lionel Boyce, Matty Matheson, Edwin Lee Gibson and Corey Hendrix. The series is created by Christopher Storer, who also serves as executive producer alongside a team of longtime collaborators.
