Puducherry Vendor finds jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh on street. This is what he does next

A family of two found gold jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh after mistakenly dropping their purse in Puducherry’s Thavalakuppam, because of a water vendor who found the purse and handed it over to the local police station.

The incident came to light on Tuesday, when the family was roaming around the town. While visiting a nearby shop, they suddenly realised that they had dropped their purse, containing gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh. Panicked, they soon started searching for the purse across several spots they visited. They also checked the CCTV footage; however, were unable to trace it anywhere. The family then filed a police complaint.

Coincidentally, Murugan, the identified water vendor, found the purse lying on the street. As soon as he opened it, he saw that the purse contained gold ornaments, like a bracelet and several others. Wasting no time, he rushed to the police station and submitted the purse.

As the police started tracing the owners, they soon came across a complaint that was registered at a different police station. The two coordinated and called both parties together. In their presence, Murugan handed over the jewellery to Muthaian, the owner of the jewellery. The latter also expressed his gratitude.

The local police further appreciated Murugan’s honesty and effort in returning the purse. The police also felicitated him by wrapping a shawl around his neck.
