Nike’s Air Force 1 Is Getting a New Premium Update With Ribbons for Spring

The upcoming Nike Air Force 1 releases aren’t slowing down. After learning Tuesday of an upcoming croc-textured version of the classic sneaker, more new styles are surfacing for springtime.

Releasing soon is a new women’s-exclusive spin on the retro basketball sneaker. Coming in two styles, the Air Force 1 Low pairs include premium special-edition designation, which indicates higher quality materials and more intricate detailing than typical Air Force 1 makeups. 

On these pairs, which will be offered in Oatmeal/Oatmeal/Pale Ivory (style code IR0871-100) and Pink Foam/Pink Foam/Pink Foam (style code IR0871-600) colorways, the premium updates include whimsical adornments in the form of thick ribbon shoelaces and a needlepoint Nike logo on both the tongue and insole. 

The Beaverton, Ore.-based sportswear brand has toyed with this sort of aesthetic before. 2024’s “Big Money Savings” Nike SB Dunk Low, said to be inspired by big box discount stores, donned a similar needlepoint-style graphic on its insole. And in 2023, a “Needlework” Dunk Low featured a Nike logo with a hand-stitched appearance. 

In addition to the aforementioned White Croc pair, other upcoming Air Force 1s of note include a patent leather pastel Easter colorway and a new Kobe Bryant Protro style inspired by the late basketball legend’s camaraderie with former teammate Pau Gasol. 

Ribbon laces have also been a recurring theme on Nike’s recent output, but they aren’t the only brand who’s tapped into the decorative look. New Balance just launched new styles of its Rosalía-fronted low-profile 204L sneaker featuring scalloped edges and ribboned shoelaces. 

Both of these Nike Air Force 1 Low PRM SE colorways will be released exclusively in women’s sizing in the coming weeks from nike.com and select Nike Sportswear retailers. Some styles are already appearing at retailers including the UAE’s Namshi. U.S. retail pricing is expected to be $130 each.
