PM Modi becomes the first world leader to cross 100 million followers on Instagram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday crossed the historic milestone of 100 million followers on Instagram. He became the first global leader and politician to achieve this landmark on the Meta-owned platform.

The Indian Prime Minister joined the platform in 2014, the same year he led the National Democratic Alliance to power with 336 seats. In the last 12 years, millions of followers have flocked to his Instagram account, making the handle one of the most engaging platforms in the world.

A report by the news agency ANI suggests that PM Modi has surpassed several global leaders, including the United States President Donald Trump, Brazilian President Lula, and the Turkish President Erdogan. Donald Trump is a distant second with 43.2 million followers on Instagram, followed by the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million, Lula with 14.4 million, Erdoan with 11.6 million, and the Argentine President Javier Milei with 6.4 million.

Along with the global leaders, Modi has surpassed his opponents and party peers in India as well, in terms of the number of followers. After Modi, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, has the highest number of followers, 16.1 million. The Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is in third position with 12.6 million followers on Instagram.
