Does Savannah Guthrie Think Mother, Nancy Is Dead Amid USD 1 Million Offer? ‘Already Have Gone…’

The search for Nancy Guthrie reached day 25, without any hopeful news regarding the 84-year-old’s survival. The search began on February 1, 2026, after the elderly woman, who isthe mother of Today Show co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home under mysterious circumstances. The Pima County police and the FBI are looking at the case with priority, suspecting kidnapping. Amid that, Savannah offered an additional USD 1 million reward for the recovery of her mother, while also expressing scepticism regarding Nancy being alive.

Does Savannah Guthrie think her mother, Nancy Guthrie, might already be dead?

In a heart-wrenching Instagram video posted on February 24, 2026, Savannah Guthrie acknowledged the harsh reality that her elderly mother, Nancy Guthrie, may no longer be alive. While she previously stated that her family is still blowing on the embers of hope and praying for a miracle, she tearfully processed the possibility that her mother might have “already gone home to the Lord that she loves.” Savannah emotionally stated in the video:

“I’m coming on to say it is day 24 since our mom was taken in the dark of night from her bed, and every hour and minute and second and every long night has been agony since then of worrying about her and fearing about her, aching for her, and most of all just missing her. She may already be gone. She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in Heaven with her mom and her dad and with her beloved brother Pierce and with our daddy.”

Savannah Guthrie’s scepticism regarding Nancy’s survival might be based on the fact that the latter has been missing for 25 days and the kidnappers haven’t provided proof of life yet. Moreover, the 84-year-old has limited mobility and requires vital daily medication for a heart condition that authorities previously warned could be fatal if missed for more than 24 hours. Even her pacemaker lost contact with her Apple devices (iPhone and Apple Watch) at 2:28 a.m. on February 1, 2026 (ET). Not just Savannah, officials have also weighed in on the possibility of her mother being dead already.

Former FBI official weighs in on the possibility of Nancy Guthrie’s death

Former FBI Assistant Director, Chris Swecker, expressed serious doubt regarding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance being the result of a genuine kidnapping during his February 2026 conversation with Fox News. He pointed to the lack of “proof of life” and the suspicious jump in ransom demands from USD 1 million to USD 6 million. Sharing his concerns, he stated:

“I’m very sceptical of this. Is this really a kidnapping? Does somebody really have her, and is she really alive?”

According to Chris Swecker, Nancy Guthrie’s family must be open to possibilities other than abduction. He noted that if it was a legitimate kidnapping, providing proof of life would be “simple”, however, the kidnappers had not done so even after repeated requests of Nancy’s children via social media. Chris suggested the case might be “something other than a kidnapping,” weighing on the possibility that Savannah Guthrie’s mother may have passed away shortly after the kidnapper(s) initial break-in and attempt to take her away forcefully. He mentioned:

“If this was a kidnapping, it would be a very simple matter to authenticate and provide proof of life…You have to allow for the possibility that this was something more or something other than a kidnapping.”

Are there any suspects in Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping case yet?

The FBI released footage of a person of interest in the Nancy Guthrie case; however, they haven’t named a suspect yet. Recently, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, officially cleared Nancy Guthrie’s family members as suspects in her disappearance. The clearance covers Nancy’s children, Savannah, Annie, and Camron Guthrie, as well as their respective spouses, including Tommaso Cioni and Michael Feldman. The sheriff’s department released a statement emphasising that the Guthrie family is considered a victim in the case.
