A 21-year-old man shot his father dead, dismembered the body and hid parts of it in a drum inside his house in Lucknow, police said.
The decomposed body of the victim, Manvendra Pratap Singh, owner of Vardhman Pathology, was recovered from a drum at his home. Police had been probing his disappearance since February 20 after a missing person report was registered.
During the investigation, police questioned his son, Akshat Pratap Singh, a B Com student. According to police, the accused initially told his mother that his father had died by suicide. However, during sustained questioning, he allegedly confessed to killing him.
DCP Vikrant Veer said the accused told investigators that he shot his father with a rifle around 4:30 am on February 20 following a dispute. He claimed he was angry because his father was pressuring him to prepare for competitive examinations.
Police said the accused then brought the body down from the third floor to a room on the ground floor and cut it into pieces to conceal the crime. He allegedly disposed of some body parts near Sadarouna and hid the remaining parts inside a drum at the house. Some parts were recovered from the ground floor during the search.
Police officials and a forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence. Authorities have taken the accused into custody and initiated legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law.
The incident has shocked residents of the Ashiyana locality. Further investigation is underway.
