It’s all about teaching right from wrong when The Neighborhood returns on Monday, February 23, for its first episode back from its winter hiatus. It comes with an important message: “Real eyes realize real lies.”
In the upcoming episode “Welcome to the Zhuzh,” on February 23, “Calvin secretly coaches Dave during a big job interview. Meanwhile, Marty plans his proposal, and Malcolm’s secret romance hits the tabloids,” according to the logline. But another important moment happens between father and son.
In the exclusive clip obtained by TV Insider, Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield) is talking to his neighbor, Marty Butler (Marcel Spears), in front of his house, when his son Grover (Hank Greenspan) approaches with a dishonest favor.
“Hey, Dad. Can you just sign this?” Grover asked, handing him a paper from school.
“Yeah, sure. What is it?” Dave asked.
“The usual. No need to bother reading it. I already read it for you,” Grover said.
“In that case, I definitely want to read it,” Dave replied.
Marty told Grover that he played this conversation “very badly.” Dave’s eyes got wide as he read the note. “It just says I don’t have to do P.E. because of my asthma,” Grover said.
“Oh, been there,” Marty budged in. “I know how you feel.”
“No, you don’t,” Dave replied. “He doesn’t have asthma,” he said, pointing to Grover.
“What?” Marty said. “You know, boy, that is stolen valor.”
“Look. Let’s not argue over who does or doesn’t have asthma. All you have to do is sign your name right there, and then I get a free period,” Grover said to his dad.
Dave told his son that that would be a lie. Grover shot back that some of his classmates did it, citing religious exemptions and being allergic to sweat.
“I don’t care what everyone does,” Dave said. “Honesty matters, and the truth will always come out. Remember this: Real eyes realizes real lies.”
When Marty and Grover didn’t understand what he was saying, Dave slowed it down for them. Grover took the paper away from his dad and said that he should have asked his mom, Gemma (Beth Behrs).
The Neighborhood recently wrapped filming its last season on CBS. The sitcom has run for eight seasons and also stars Cedric the Entertainer (Calvin Butler), Tichina Arnold (Tina Butler), Sheaun McKinney (Malcolm Butler), Skye Townsend (Courtney Pridgeon), and Amber Stevens West (Mercedes).
