Priyanka Chopra Jonas Channels Her ‘The Bluff’ Character at the Film’s Premiere

Priyanka Chopra Jonas took method dressing to a new level with her Antoinette Messam-designed cuirass at “The Bluff” premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

The actress turned to the “The Bluff” costume designer for the statement piece of her look. “When [Priyanka] chose to wear the cuirass from her hero ‘Bloody Mary’ costume to the ‘The Bluff’ premiere, my heart was full,” Messam wrote in an Instagram post, featuring video of Chopra Jonas on Tuesday night’s red carpet.

“Such a [proud auntie] moment. Thank you, Priyanka, this reminded me why I love what I do.” The cuirass, a piece of armor consisting of a breastplate and backplate fastened together, was inspired by another set piece in the film — a mystical siren painted on a ship.

The piece “was hand-built, wet-molded over a scanned bust, then aged with battle scars and sea-worn history,” another post from Messam’s Instagram read. Meg Ashforth and Lolly Ruby Redpath provided the leather work on the piece. Art finishers for the cuirass included Billy Heinemann and Olivia Balle. Madeline Turner provided assistance.

The cuirass was pared with a draped skirt with an asymmetrical thigh-high hem. Chopra Jonas coordinated the brown color palette with her Black Suede Studio brown mules. As for accessories, the actress wore an 18-karat gold diamond Cartier ring and a Bulgari choker necklace. Chopra Jonas serves the jewelry house as a global brand ambassador.

Chopra Jonas posed for photos on the red carpet alongside her husband of eight years, Nick Jonas, who opted for a similarly earthy color palette in a burnt sienna dress shirt and coordinated trousers with a white shirt beneath. He topped off the look with a checker wool blazer in a shade of sandy brown.

“The Bluff” follows one woman whose past is revealed after vicious buccaneers invade her home. The film hits Prime Video on Feb. 25.
