“Scarface” actress Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio looked like any other New Yorker while riding the subway in the West Village recently.
The actress, 67, went unnoticed as she took a seat, wearing jeans, a puffer jacket, earmuffs, and mittens, while holding a shopping bag.
Mastrantonio made her Broadway debut as an understudy in the 1980 revival of “West Side Story” and three years later made her screen debut in “Scarface,” playing Al Pacino’s sister.
The violent gangster flick, which has become a modern classic, was directed by Brian De Palma and also featured Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Loggia, and Steven Bauer.
She went on to star in a slew of other big movies, including “The Color of Money,” opposite Tom Cruise and Paul Newman, which earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
Mastrantonio’s other film roles include 1989’s “The Abyss,” with Ed Harris, 1991’s “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman, and 2000’s “The Perfect Storm” with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg.
The Oscar nominee continued acting on stage, earning a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for the Broadway revival of “Man of La Mancha” in 2003.
Mastrantonio’s last small-screen appearance was last year in “Law & Order: Organized Crime” as Isabella Spezzano.
She has been married to British director Pat O’Connor, best known for “The January Man,” since 1990, and they share two sons.
The family lived in England for decades before moving back to the United States in the 2010s.
