Renzo Rosso Has Restored Hotel Ancora in Cortina

The Ancora hotel in Cortina, founded in 1826, has been restored by Renzo Rosso, founder of the OTB Group, who says he has “always wanted to create a place that would surprise at first sight but also make everyone feel truly at home.”

Expressing his vision for the venue, the owner of Diesel and Jil Sander among other brands believes “home is where you meet your closest friends, where every detail reflects who you are. Ancora Cortina is the result of everything I have seen and experienced during my travels: a project designed to welcome with warmth, made possible thanks to the creative spirit of Vicky Charles, who managed to translate this vision into every room.”

The interior design project was entrusted to Charles & Co studio, led by Charles, former design director at Soho House, and the hotel is sure to enjoy extra attention thanks to the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

Located in the town’s central Corso Italia, the hotel comprises 38 rooms, each different from one another but all facing the Dolomites, and reflecting the surroundings, with natural materials, and wood and stone.

“For me, what made the entire process fascinating was that Renzo wanted to treat it like a restoration project,” says Charles. “The hotel had so much to work with: wooden work, painted ceilings, alpine decorative motifs, colors. It has a strong aesthetic language and a lot of originality. Each room had to be a refuge, as Renzo wanted. Bold, without being noisy.”

The gastronomic offering reinterprets the local flavors and the bar is open all day. The terrace on Corso Italia is a meeting point. The spa covers 2,160 square feet, and below street level is the Brave Club.

“I chose Cortina because, for me, it is the most beautiful mountain resort in the world,” says Rosso. “Here, you are surrounded by breathtaking beauty, nature in 360 degrees: it is the most extraordinary mountain range that exists. You can walk or bike at any time of year, and every kilometer offers an even more enchanting view than the last.”
