Bijou Mary Phillips is a well-known former actress, singer, model and socialite. She is the daughter of musicians, John Phillips and Genevieve Waite. However, recently she has been in the headlines for her battle with a failing kidney. For the unversed, the actress was recently hospitalised following a health scare and is currently undergoing dialysis. She has now shared an update on her health, urging fans to help her find a kidney.
Bijou Phillips needs a second kidney transplant
Bijou Phillips took to her social media account on February 11, 2026 (ET), asking her fans for help from her hospital bed. The actress posted a long note sharing an update on her health. She even mentioned her daughter, Fianna, in the text and explained how she needs to get better for her. For the unversed, Bijou was born with underdeveloped kidneys and is now in need of a transplant. She was quoted as saying:
“I need help finding a kidney. I’m asking as a friend, a sister, an aunt, and most importantly, a single mother to an incredible and brave daughter. I was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of life in the NICU on dialysis.”
However, this is not the first kidney transplant she has needed. In the same social media post, Bijou Phillips shared that she received her first kidney from a friend, which gave her some beautiful years with her daughter. However, over the years, she has faced several complications, which have now led her to need a new kidney. She was quoted as saying:
“In 2017, I received the incredible gift of a kidney from a dear friend. That transplant gave me 8 precious years to be a mother to my daughter—but I have had many complications since, including the BK virus which led to both a cellular and antibody rejection.”
For the unversed, according to the National Kidney Foundation, the BK virus is a latent virus present in most people. However, it can be reactivated by anti-rejection medication given to organ recipients. The foundation further shared that the symptoms include seizures, muscle pain, fevers and trouble breathing.
Bijou Phillips is looking for a kidney donor
In her post dated February 11, 2026, Bijou Phillips further shared that she was at UCLA and back on dialysis. The actress urged her fans to help her find a donor so she can have some more time with her daughter. She also requested fans who would like to get tested to fill out the donation form in her bio. The post could be read as:
“I am currently under the care of Dr Anjay Rastogi at UCLA and back on dialysis. Please help me find a living donor so that I can have more time with my daughter, family, and friends. I am so grateful for your support. Time is of the essence.”
Bijou Phillips’ past kidney transplant
In 2017, Bijou Phillips’ representative told PEOPLE that the actress was born with underdeveloped kidneys and had been privately dealing with the aftermath of it for the past five years. The rep told the news outlet that in an effort to heal her body, “she has led a stress-free life with a vegan diet, which eventually wasn’t enough, and she’s been privately having dialysis.”
