Thick fog blankets Delhi-NCR, reduces visibility, airport warns of flight delays

Dense fog gripped Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, severely reducing visibility and disrupting normal life across the region. Several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas woke up to a thick blanket of fog, with visuals emerging from some areas near-zero visibility conditions.

The India Meteorological Department’s district-level nowcast warned of moderate fog over Delhi for the next two hours, with visibility at several places likely to drop below 50 metres.

The fog impact extended beyond Delhi, affecting western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab as well. Authorities said the fog could intensify after 7 am, further impacting movement and transport services. Gautam Buddh Nagar also reported reduced visibility due to dense fog.

Delhi airport issued a passenger advisory, warning of possible flight delays and disruptions due to CAT III conditions. The airport said flight operations were underway under low-visibility procedures and advised passengers to check with airlines for the latest updates.

Air India also issued a travel advisory, warning that poor visibility due to fog in parts of Northern India, including Delhi, could have a cascading impact on its flight operations across the network. In a post on X, the airline said it had taken steps to minimise inconvenience to passengers and assured support in case of delays, diversions or cancellations.
