    Grammy-nominated musician John Forte, best known for being a member of the musical collective Refugee Camp All Stars, passed away at the age of 50. The renowned musician was found dead at his home in Chilmark, Massachusetts. The musician’s untimely death came as a shock to his fans and family.

    What was the cause of John Forte’s untimely death?

    Forte was found unresponsive by law enforcement at his home in Martha’s Vineyard. As per the initial findings, authorities do not suspect foul play. However, a medical examiner has yet to release an official autopsy report. But according to Forte’s family, the musician was suffering from a seizure condition for some time. Forte’s seizures reportedly began a year back and he was hospitalised for it. Though Forte was taking medications for it, it is not clear whether his seizure was the reason behind his death.

    On January 12, 2026, John Forte’s neighbour discovered him lying on the kitchen floor and called the police. By the time the Police arrived and checked on him, he wasn’t responsive and was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chilmark Police Chief told MV Times:

    “It is such a small community, this death hits close to home. It’s the upside and the downside to living on such a small Island.”

    John Forte was nominated for a Grammy at the age of 21

    John Forte’s music career began when he was introduced to the American hip-hop group The Fugees in the 1990s. Forte co-wrote songs for their album Score, which earned him his first Grammy nomination at the age of 21. He also contributed to Wyclef Jean’s debut solo album, The Carnival. Apart from being a multi-instrumentalist, Forte was also a rapper. He also released solo albums such as Poly Sci and I John, with Carly Simon.

    In 2000, Forte was arrested at the Newark International Airport for the possession of USD 1.4 million worth of liquid c*caine. He was later convicted to a mandatory minimum of 14 years in prison after being found guilty. Talking about John Forte’s family, he was reportedly married to a photographer named Laura Fuller, and the couple had two children, a son and a daughter.
