Capes and draped fabric emerged as a major trend from the red carpet of the 2026 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night in Santa Monica, Calif.
With designs by Alberta Ferretti, Louis Vuitton and more, dramatic drapes and billowing capes were fashioned by such stars as Ariana Grande and Chase Infiniti, among others. WWD breaks down those looks as well as other designs ahead.

“Wicked: For Good” star Grande opted for a custom Alberta Ferretti gown designed by Lorenzo Serafini for Sunday night’s awards show. The off-the-shoulder, tailored gown was custom-made in pink satin and featured a floor-length, draped white tulle cape with allover delicate embroidery and embellished with silver floral appliqués.
The Best Supporting Actress nominee accessorized with jewelry by Swarovski. Her look was curated by stylist Law Roach and Yvonne Shelly.

Wunmi Mosaku channeled ocean waves with her custom Gap Studio gown by creative director Zac Posen. The deep blue dress featured fabric ruching at the bustline, with angular straps with cutouts that flowed into an ombre blue and white cape-like element at the back.
The “Sinners” star and Best Supporting Actress nominee accessorized her look with Messika jewelry and wore Manolo Blahnik heels to complete her attire. Mosaku’s hair was styled by Araxi Lindsey, with makeup by monoymous artist Uzo. The actress’ nails were designed by Sarah Chue. Mosaku’s entire look was curated by stylist Shameelah Hicks.

Infiniti’s custom Louis Vuitton dress merged the butter yellow trend with the Critics Choice Awards red carpet drape and cape styling element. The “One Battle After Another” breakout star and Louis Vuitton brand ambassador‘s attire included a high-waisted, formfitting skirt with a short train and an ornately designed top, featuring a high-neckline, circular fabric ruching and a long cape at the back. The actress’ look was curated by Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald.

“Marty Supreme” breakout star Odessa A’zion wore a custom Ott Dubai look. The “I Love LA” actress’ silver frock featured a billowing, cape-like draped fabric element contrasted with a cinched waistline and bustline cutout.
The 2026 Critics Choice Awards were held at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif., on Sunday night. Hosted by Chelsea Handler, the show honored the best film and TV performances, directors and craftspeople of 2025. Chalamet took home the award for Best Actor, with Jessie Buckley of “Hamnet,” “Weapons” star Amy Madigan and Jacob Elordi of “Frankenstein” receiving honors as well.
