Shubhangi Atre has been grabbing a lot of attention ever since reports around her exit from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain have surfaced. It is worth mentioning that Shilpa Shinde, who left the popular TV show in 2016, is all set to return as ‘Angoori Bhabhi’ after almost a decade. Amid the buzz around Shilpa Shinde’s comeback, Shubhangi recently revealed the reason behind her exit.
Did Shubhangi Atre leave Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain due to low pay?
Recently, Shubhangi Atre sat down for a candid conversation with Vickey Lalwani, during which she revealed the reason behind her exit and also addressed some ongoing rumours. Talking about her exit, Shubhangi mentioned that she wanted to try something new. She explained that her daughter also felt the same. She continued to mention that since season 1 was about to end, she decided to exit the show after its conclusion. In her words:
“I felt from within that it was time for me to try something new. My daughter, who is my best friend and my biggest critic, also told me, ‘Mom, you should try something different now.’ So I thought it was the right time. Coincidentally, season one was also reaching its end. I had promised Mrs Kohli (the producer of the show), and it’s also in my nature that I never leave anything unfinished.”
During the same chat, Shubhangi Atre also addressed the reports, which claimed that she was leaving the show due to low payment. Shubhangi put an end to those rumours by revealing that she had never asked for a hike and was following what was written in her contract. She also mentioned that she was offered multiple shows and web series in between, but she remained focused towards Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. She was quoted as saying:
“No, no. I never asked for extra money. For the last ten years, I followed what was written in my contract. I don’t know about her (Shilpa), but I never asked. You can even check with Mrs Kohli. I always adhered to my contract.”

During the same chat with Vickey Lalwani, actress, Shubhangi Atre also opened up about a disturbing phase of her life. In early 2025, Shubhangi Atre lost her ex-husband due to liver cirrhosis. In the recent chat, she revealed that she went through multiple breakdowns during that time and on set, the producer of the show, Binaifer Kohli stood by her side. Shubhangi shared:
“She always supported me. There used to be a time when for two hours we didn’t used to shoot because I was going through my breakdown when Piyush (ex-husband) passed away. It was a very disturbing time, and I was back on set the next day, but they all supported me, and I am very grateful.”
