US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that American forces carried out what he described as powerful and deadly airstrikes against ISIS militants in Nigeria, accusing the extremist group of targeting and killing Christians.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the strikes were ordered against ISIS fighters operating in northwestern Nigeria, calling the operation a warning to militant groups he said were persecuting religious minorities.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote. He said the militants had been “targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries.”
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
