Bengaluru cyber police file case against social media users over obscene video links

The Bengaluru police registered an First Information Report (FIR) against 28 social media accounts for allegedly promoting and circulating obscene content online.

According to police, the accounts were posting clips and screenshots of viral obscene videos and promoting them with captions such as “comment or DM for the full video” and “link in bio.”

The accused allegedly claimed the availability of 19-minute, 40-minute and 55-minute videos to lure users into clicking the links shared on their profiles.

Investigators said the links redirected users directly to pornographic websites, drawing people towards obscene content.

Police said social media platforms are accessed by people of all age groups and expressed concern that such posts could attract even children out of curiosity.

Based on a private complaint, FIRs were registered by the Central CEN Crime Police against 28 social media accounts. The videos were reportedly promoted across platforms including Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. Further investigation is underway, police said.
