Fountain Life Appoints Dr. Dawn Mussallem Chief Medical Officer

Fountain Life is welcoming a new member to its executive suite.

The well care center has appointed Dr. Dawn Mussallem as its new chief medical officer. Mussallem — a stage IV cancer survivor and the first heart transplant recipient to run a full marathon — previously served as the oncology leader and a double board-certified lifestyle medicine physician at Mayo Clinic.

“I am honored to join Fountain Life as chief medical officer at a moment when healthcare is ready for a fundamental shift,” Mussallem told WWD. “This role is the culmination of my life’s work, uniting everything I have lived, learned and built as both physician and patient into one clear mission: to move healthcare from late-stage rescue to early detection, prevention and true healthy longevity.”

Established by four individuals aspiring to change the trajectory of preventative health, Fountain Life utilizes a wide range of early detection technology, from full body and brain MRIs to advanced cardiac scans, to do “the deepest dive” on their patients’ health. “The focal point of Fountain Life is to extend the health span, not necessarily how long you live, although that’s a byproduct of that, but we want you to be in optimal health up until whatever age that you finally pass. The goal here is not to live your last 10 years in decline,” Dr. William Kapp, chief executive officer and cofounder, previously told WWD.

On top of its existing technology, the center recently began leveraging AI with a new two-faced model named Zori. Through Zori, Fountain Life’s patients are now able to communicate and interpret their medical records at a high school level. On the clinician side, Zori can help collate large volumes of data from not just one patient’s medical tests, but more than 10,000 members across several years.

“It’s important to understand that Zori is a decision support tool for the clinicians and our members. We want our members to have agency over their data. They should have as much information about their body as their clinicians do,” Kapp said.

Fountain Life’s integration of AI is one of the reasons Mussallem was drawn to the center. “I am energized to work alongside this exceptional team to redefine what proactive, prevention-first care can look like when advanced diagnostics, AI-driven insight and lifestyle medicine are brought together, and deeply grateful for the opportunity to help shape a future in which more people not only live longer, but feel profoundly alive in the years they are given,” she said.
