Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar, which released in theatres on December 5, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Rs 400 crore at the box office. The ensemble cast has been widely discussed, with Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal of Rehman Dakait receiving particular attention. However, Saumya Tandon, who played Ulfat Hasin, the wife of Khanna’s character, has recently emphasised the value of Ranveer Singh’s contribution to the film, drawing attention to his understated performance.
In an interview with Radio City, Saumya Tandon addressed the ongoing discourse about the film’s standout performances, stating that “she thinks Ranveer Singh’s performance deserves applause too.” Tandon explained that while Akshaye Khanna is at the center of much of the praise, Singh’s work should not be overlooked. She emphasised, “I also want to say one more thing. Everybody’s talking about Akshaye, but I have to tell you, I love Ranveer in that movie.”
Saumya Tandon elaborated on Singh’s approach to his role, describing it as an example of artistic maturity. She noted, “Because, you know, the silent parts? Being a superstar, being a hero. He’s standing behind and giving the stage to Akshaye to do all those nuances. He’s very subtly standing behind as an actor and staying silent. I think it’s the sign of a very mature artist.” Tandon also expressed appreciation for the film team, saying, “Saumya was all praise for the Dhurandhar team, by stating that the film is for the ‘brave’ and the ‘biggest of them all’ is Aditya.”
Dhurandhar is written, directed, and co-produced by Aditya Dhar. The film features Ranveer Singh as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari, a spy who infiltrates the gang led by Rehman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna. The principal cast also includes R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. Saumya Tandon’s role as Ulfat Hasin adds additional depth to the portrayal of Rehman Dakait’s personal life.
Since its release, Dhurandhar has sparked extensive public and critical discussion, especially regarding its performances. While Akshaye Khanna continues to receive significant recognition, Ranveer Singh’s restrained and supportive acting style has been highlighted by both colleagues and viewers.
