    Keeping in view the rising cold wave across the state, the Bihar government has revised the timings of all government schools. The change applies to primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools.

    As per the revised order, schools will now operate from 9:30 am to 4 pm. The day will begin with a prayer session from 9:30 am to 10 am, followed by regular classes.

    REVISED SCHOOL TIMINGS FOR BIHAR

    After the prayer session, students will attend eight periods through the day. There will be a 40-minute mid-day break from 12 pm to 12:40 pm.

    The revised period-wise schedule is as follows:

    First period: 10 am to 10:40 am
    Second period: 10:40 am to 11:20 am
    Third period: 11:20 am to 12 pm
    Fourth period: 12:40 pm to 1:20 pm
    Fifth period: 1:20 pm to 2 pm
    Sixth period: 2 pm to 2:40 pm
    Seventh period: 2:40 pm to 3:20 pm
    Eighth period: 3:20 pm to 4 pm

    WHO THE ORDER APPLIES TO

    The revised timetable applies to all government schools, including Sanskrit and Urdu schools. The move aims to maintain a regular academic routine while keeping student safety in mind during the cold wave.

    SCHOOL HOLIDAYS IN OTHER STATES

    Meanwhile, schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed from December 20 to December 31, 2025, giving students a 12-day winter break. Classes will resume in January. The state government may extend the holidays if cold conditions worsen, with updates to be shared by schools.

    In Jammu and Kashmir, several schools have been closed till March due to cold, fog and snowfall. Schools in the winter zone will remain closed from December 8 to 14. In addition, all pre-primary schools and schools up to Class 8 will stay shut for December and January. Classes 1 to 8 will reopen in March, while Classes 9 to 12 will resume from February 23, 2026.
