On Tuesday, the Producers Guild of America announced its nominees for its annual documentary award, which includes The Alabama Solution, My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay and The Perfect Neighbor.
The list is dominated by two HBO (The Alabama Solution and My Mom Jayne), two Netflix (The Perfect Neighbor and Cover-Up) and two National Geographic (The Tale of Silyan and Ocean With David Attenborough) documentaries. Mr. Nobody Against Putin was made independently in Denmark and does not have currently U.S. distribution. Notably absent from the list are best documentary feature Oscar contenders 2000 Meters to Andriivka, Orwell: 2+2=5, Apocalypse in the Tropics and Come See Me in the Good Light (all were eligible).
Additionally, the PGA also announced its finalists for the PGA Innovation Award. Per the PGA, “these categories recognize productions that demonstrate exceptional achievement in documentary filmmaking, and significant accomplishments in the application of emerging technology.”
The documentary winner will be named during the 2026 PGA Awards ceremony on Feb. 28, which will take place this year at the Fairmont Century Plaza. The winner of the PGA Innovation Award will be announced at a pre-awards ceremony reception on Feb. 26.
“Across all categories, the Producers Guild Awards celebrate the vital job of producing and the noteworthy contributions that honorees have made to the industry,” Producers Guild of America Presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line said in a statement. “The PGA is proud to recognize the extraordinary producers and teams whose work reflects their remarkable dedication and commitment to excellence.”
Earlier this year, at the 2025 PGA Awards, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story producers Lizzie Gillett, Robert Ford and Ian Bonhote received the award for outstanding producer of documentary motion picture.
The PGA Awards‘ 2026 nominees for sports, children’s and short form content will be announced on Friday, while the nominees for theatrical motion pictures, animated theatrical motion pictures, television series/specials and televised or streamed motion pictures will be announced on Jan. 9.
