Who wouldn’t want to rifle through a Parisian girl’s wardrobe?
That’s the scenario Cinq à Sept founder Jane Siskin imagined for pre-fall’s collection, which took in elements of French country, Françoise Hardy’s ‘60s cool and a bit of a flamboyant Jimi Hendrix vibe from across the pond. According to Siskin, this was the season to embrace all of the ingredients that have made the brand such a success in the contemporary space, “to put them in a blender and see how it would come out.”
The result offered much to taste in the way of Cinq à Sept’s frilly floral dresses (loyal customers will be pleased to see archival prints have been reinterpreted) as well as newer things to sample, like swing jackets and vests. The latter Siskin pointed to as a key investment and here she adorned them with vintage-inspired brooches and ruffled linings attached, lending an eclectic look sans the styling hassle.
Another trend she’s invested in: bubble hemlines, used for a draped viscose skirt set Siskin dubbed the “double-bubble” as well as harem pants she referred to as “the genie.” A pair in black satin with white lace insets is first on Siskin’s list of items she liked to steal from her imaginary muse. Second? The tiered caplet top they were styled with. “I love separates that I can wear many ways, and both pieces are versatile wardrobe-favorites that can easily transition from a laid-back day to a dressed-up night out,” she said.
