Several pro-Hindu groups clashed with the Tamil Nadu police over the Karthigai Deepam preparation. As per sources, the members of four Hindu groups, Hindu Makkal Katchi, Hindu Tamilar Katchi, Hanuman Senai, and Hindu Munnani, tried to climb the Thiruparankundram Hill to light up the lamps when they had a tussle with the local police.
Earlier, Justice GR Swaminathan of Tamil Nadu instructed temple officials to light the lamp on ‘Deepathun’ by 6 pm. The protestors were heading for that.
