A young valet parking assistant, Satyendra Mandal, lost his life on Sunday after a drunk driver rammed his speeding car into the valet counter outside the popular restaurant in Pune.
According to police, the incident took place around 3:30 pm when a car suddenly veered toward the valet area and crashed directly into the counter. Mandal, who was standing at the spot, was hit with tremendous force and flung several feet away.
He was found lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead before they could begin treatment.
The crash triggered chaos in the area and drew a large crowd, leading to brief tension outside the restaurant. Police identified the driver as Pratap Daingde and stated that he was heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses also alleged that Daingde created a ruckus after the collision.
Upon receiving information, the Yerawada Police reached the scene and took the accused into custody. They have requested his medical examination report. Preliminary investigation confirms that the fatal crash resulted from drink-driving.
Police said a case is being registered and further probe is underway.
