Nursery admissions in Delhi private schools to begin from Dec 4. Details here

The race for nursery admissions in Delhi’s private schools is set to begin on December 4, 2025, as the Directorate of Education (DoE) announces the start of applications for Nursery, KG, and Class 1 in over 1,700 private schools across the city.

The process is designed to be transparent and parent-friendly, aiming to simplify the often stressful admission procedure.

    TRANSPARENT ADMISSION PROCESS

The Directorate of Education has issued detailed guidelines for the 2026-27 academic session. Schools have been instructed to ensure complete transparency in admissions.

Whether the selection is conducted via computerised draw or the traditional slip system, the draw of lots will be carried out in the presence of parents.

The first list of selected students will be published on January 23, 2026, followed by a second list on February 9, 2026. This procedure will apply to 75 percent of seats in the general category, while separate guidelines will be issued for EWS and Disadvantaged Categories.

Schools are allowed to charge only a Rs 25 registration fee, with the purchase of the school prospectus being completely optional. Schools are also required to notify parents of the draw date and time at least two days in advance through their website, notice board, or email.

    HOW TO APPLY

Parents can submit applications online through the Directorate of Education’s official website, edudel.nic.in. To apply, they need to visit the website and click on the “Nursery Admission 2026-27” link.

After that, they should fill in the required information, upload the necessary documents, and pay the Rs 25 registration fee. Once the application form is submitted, parents are advised to download a copy for their reference.

    REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Parents need to submit the following documents:

    • Ration card in the name of the guardian
    • Domicile certificate of the child or guardian
    • Voter ID of the guardian
    • Electricity, water, or telephone bill, or a child’s passport
    • Aadhaar card of the mother or father

AGE CRITERIA (AS OF MARCH 31, 2026)

    • Nursery (Pre-School): 3 to 4 years
    • KG (Pre-Primary): 4 to 5 years
    • Class 1: 5 to 6 years

The Delhi government emphasises that this transparent and simplified process will help reduce stress for parents and ensure that admissions are completed fairly and efficiently.

With a minimal fee and clear guidelines, parents can now prepare to secure a smooth start for their children’s academic journey.
