In a significant move affecting one of Bihar’s most prominent political households, former Chief Minister and current Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, Rabri Devi, has been directed to vacate her long-time residence at 10 Circular Road, a bungalow the Lalu Prasad family has occupied for nearly twenty years.
NEW ALLOTMENT ISSUED
The state’s Building Construction Department has allotted Rabri Devi a new government residence, Central Pool House No 39 on Harding Road. The allotment letter was issued by Shiv Ranjan, Joint Secretary–cum–Estate Officer, as part of a wider exercise that also includes housing allocations for newly sworn-in ministers of the NDA government.
Officials said that since Rabri Devi currently holds the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, she is now entitled to a different category of accommodation, prompting the reassignment.
LALU FAMILY TO MOVE OUT OF LONG-TIME HOME
The directive means the former Chief Minister must now surrender the 10 Circular Road residence, which had originally been allotted to her in her capacity as a former CM. The house has served as the political and personal base of the Lalu Prasad–Rabri Devi family for over two decades, hosting major party decisions, visiting leaders and media briefings.
With the new order, the family will shift to the Harding Road residence once the transition process begins.
GOVERNMENT MOVES QUICKLY AFTER CABINET EXPANSION
The decision comes as the newly formed NDA government in Bihar accelerates administrative actions following the expansion of the Nitish Kumar Cabinet. Soon after ministers took charge, the Building Construction Department initiated the process of reassigning official residences in accordance with protocol and entitlement.
