In a significant turn in the Dharmasthala mass burial case, the Mangaluru District Sessions Court on Monday granted bail to the prime accused, Mask Man Chinnayya, an arrest that had drawn wide public attention since August.
BAIL FOLLOWS FILING OF INTERIM CHARGE SHEET
The court’s decision came shortly after investigators submitted an interim charge sheet, a development that prompted Chinnayya’s legal team to move a fresh bail plea.
The court allowed the request while imposing 12 stringent conditions, including the requirement to furnish a surety bond of Rs 1 lakh.
ARREST AFTER PROLONGED INVESTIGATION
Chinnayya was taken into custody on 23 August, following a prolonged probe triggered by a complaint from an anonymous informant. After his arrest, he was remanded to judicial custody on 6 September and later shifted to the Shivamogga prison.
Officials confirmed that the court has attached tight restrictions to the bail order to ensure compliance as the investigation continues. The conditions, though not detailed publicly, are aimed at preventing interference with witnesses or evidence.
