As the November 28 release of Tere Ishk Mein approaches, director Aanand L. Rai has addressed comparisons between his film and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, acknowledging some overlap but emphasizing their difference in intent.

Aanand L Rai opens up on Tere Ishk Mein being compared to Animal; says, “There are similarities”
In conversations with The Hindu, Rai noted that while “there are similarities in how the characters have aggression and rage,” these are mere ingredients rather than the entire narrative. He said, “It doesn’t belong in the same space. There are similarities in how the characters have aggression and rage. But those are just the ingredients and not the story.”
A particularly debated trailer moment shows Dhanush’s character barging into a wedding, sparking chatter that he embodies an “alpha male” archetype. Rai firmly rejects that label, clarifying, “A story is never conceived thinking of your character as an alpha. For me, the character is emotional and sensitive, and nothing that he does is wrong.”
Rai also reflected on his long-standing relationship with Dhanush, revealing that their bond has evolved beyond professional collaboration. “When we first worked together, Dhanush was no more than an actor. Over the years, I can say, now I have a son. We are selfish people who are together for some reason. If you discover a relationship that goes beyond just working in films, it is magical. My profession has given me something very personal.”
Backed by T-Series and Colour Yellow with music by A. R. Rahman, Tere Ishk Mein promises a multilayered love story and is set to release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu simultaneously.
