Mahindra’s 7-seater SUV, the XUV 700 is gearing up for a refresh, and it may arrive with an all-new name. A trademark filing suggests that the upcoming XUV700 facelift could be introduced as XUV 7XO, marking a shift toward the company’s updated alphanumeric naming strategy. The move mirrors Mahindra’s recent transition from the XUV300 to the XUV 3XO, signalling a broader brand-wide effort to standardise its SUV naming.
Design updates
Multiple camouflaged prototypes of the SUV have been spotted undergoing road tests, offering early hints of what the XUV 7XO may bring. The facelift is expected to feature a more assertive front fascia with a redesigned grille, sleeker LED projector headlamps and a reprofiled bumper. New alloy wheel patterns and updated tail lamp elements are also likely to make their way into the production model, giving the familiar silhouette a fresh visual appeal.
Interior updates
Inside, Mahindra appears to be preparing a more substantial overhaul. One of the headline additions is the new triple-screen dashboard, a layout expected to be shared with Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUVs. The cabin is also expected to gain premium touches such as a Harman Kardon audio system, an auto-dimming IRVM, revised upholstery, enriched ambient lighting.
Powertrains to continue
While the exterior and interior receive meaningful upgrades, Mahindra is expected to retain the trusted engine lineup. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel units will likely continue unchanged, paired with 6-speed manual and automatic options. Select diesel variants will continue to offer all-wheel drive.
Launch timeline
Mahindra has yet to officially confirm the launch schedule, but industry expectations point toward an introduction in early 2026. With the XUV 7XO, the company aims to strengthen its position in the three-row SUV space, where it will take on rivals such as the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and its own stablemate, the Scorpio-N.
