Netflix’s upcoming special Dining With the Kapoors has sparked plenty of excitement—especially after Alia Bhatt reposted the trailer and praised Armaan Jain for bringing the family together for the celebratory meal. But fans were quick to notice that while nearly the entire Kapoor clan appears in the promo, Alia is not seen in any frame.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Armaan Jain finally addressed the curiosity around her absence. Speaking about why Alia could not be part of the shoot, Armaan said, “She had prior commitments to shoot. I might sound filmy, but like Raj Kapoor said, ‘work is worship.’”
Director Smriti Mundhra, who helms the Netflix special, echoed the sentiment and praised the family’s work ethic. She said, “That is the one thing about this family. They are all workaholics and they all love what they do. There is always an understanding that everyone makes an attempt to gather and prioritise as much as possible, but inevitably there’s one or two people who can’t make it because of work—and that’s always allowed.”
Armaan added that such scheduling conflicts are normal in a family where everyone has demanding careers. “Every function it happens—literally Christmas get-togethers, Diwali get-togethers. It happens,” he shared.
Despite not being part of the trailer, Alia has openly supported the show and expressed how much fun audiences can expect from the Kapoor family’s candid conversations, memories, and food-filled moments.
Dining With the Kapoors marks a tribute to Raj Kapoor on what would have been his 100th birth anniversary, bringing together multiple generations of the legendary film family for an intimate, celebratory lunch. It will stream on the OTT giant from November 21.
