At a recent award ceremony, producer Dinesh Vijan unveiled an ambitious long-term plan to expand Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe. The studio announced it will release seven new horror-comedy films over the next five years, reinforcing its commitment to building sustainable, franchise-led intellectual properties (IPs).

Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films unveils seven-film horror-comedy expansion plan: Seven films, one vision
Speaking at the event, Vijan explained that audience-friendly universes grow best when carefully paced. “The sweet spot is three to four films over a few years,” he said, stressing that Maddock is focused on nurturing franchises that endure rather than chasing short-lived industry trends.
Despite some recent big-ticket films underperforming, Maddock’s culturally rooted stories—from comedies to folklore-inspired fantasies—have consistently resonated with audiences. Vijan credited this success to choosing “bold, distinctive narratives” and drawing on India’s cultural depth instead of relying on formulaic storytelling.
He also noted that the real competition for cinema today is not other studios, but smartphones, which have shifted consumer attention toward bite-sized video content. This shift has encouraged Maddock to adopt a platform-neutral approach, allowing its IPs to transition seamlessly across theatrical releases, OTT platforms, and mobile formats.
Vijan highlighted AI as a major disruptor in filmmaking, predicting that rapid advancements—particularly in photorealistic imagery and cost-efficient VFX—will transform production economics within the next 18 to 24 months. While these innovations promise higher-quality films and wider reach, they also mean that “every storyteller will be able to create,” intensifying the competition for audience attention.
Among Maddock’s upcoming projects is Ikkis, a war drama directed by Sriram Raghavan, inspired by the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. The film stars Agastya Nanda in the lead role, with Dharmendra in a pivotal part. Vijan described Ikkis as one of Maddock’s most emotionally impactful projects, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to balancing commercial franchises with high-quality, prestige cinema.
