A 39-year-old woman from Karnataka was allegedly gang-raped by four men on the evening of November 16 in Koppal district.
Police said the woman, who works as a home guard, had travelled from Hosapete to Kustagi to collect money from acquaintances after telling her husband she was leaving for duty.
According to her statement, one of the accused, Lakshman, whom she had known for six months and who allegedly owed her Rs 5,000, called her to Kustagi saying he would repay the amount. He then picked her up on a motorcycle.
The complaint states that Lakshman and three of his friends allegedly gave her a drink saying it was juice, took her on a motorcycle to an abandoned house in a field near Madduru limits, and raped her multiple times between 5 pm and 5.45 pm. After she fell ill, she was taken to Koppal District Hospital.
Police have recorded the survivor’s complaint, and Yalaburga Police Station has registered an FIR.
Koppal DSP visited the spot and inspected the location. Police said efforts are underway to trace the accused, and further investigation is in progress.
