Over the years, 28-year-old Simone Biles has been pretty candid about undergoing procedures to tweak her appearance, with the Olympian revealing last year that she got baby Botox for her 27th birthday — but was not happy with the results.
Then, last month, Simone fueled speculation that she’d had a breast augmentation after she shared a video of herself doing gymnastics alongside the caption: “First flip – in a year – at the new home – with new 🍒.”
And the star confirmed the procedure at the end of October after she shared a TikTok video where she teased: “I’ve had three plastic surgeries and two of them you would never be able to tell.” Simone then asked her followers to guess the procedures in the comments.
She later responded to one of the comments to reveal the three things, writing: “🍒, lower bleph because I had THE WORST eye bags & ear lobe — my earring got ripped out when I was younger,” with the cherry emoji seemingly referring to a boob job.
Now, Simone has opened up about her decision to tell her followers about the cosmetic work that she has had done, and honestly? She makes a good point.
Speaking to People, Simone explained that she hoped her transparency would help younger people realize that what they see on social media “is not real,” and that not everybody looks “so good” naturally — in fact, everybody has their own insecurities. Simone also wants to eliminate the sense of “shame” surrounding cosmetic treatments if it helps people feel more confident in themselves.
“I’ve always tried to be open, honest and relatable. Seeing me win medals at the Olympics, that’s not relatable,” Simone began. “But what is relatable is how we feel about ourselves, what we talk about, what we go through and how we share openly, honestly.”
“It shows young girls that they have the right to their own choices, whatever they are, and that’s no shame added as well,” she went on. “I feel like nowadays with social media, you see everyone and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, how does she look so good?’ Social media is not real, so that’s why I try to be as transparent as possible.”
Explaining her thought process behind her procedures, Simone added: “I got a lower bleph because me and my family have, I call it the ‘Biles eye bags.’ We’ve just always had them, hereditary, and so that was just a big flaw. Every time I would go to a shoot, they’re like: ‘Oh, can we put some strips on her?’ And I was like: ‘Oh, baby, I had 12 hours last night, these aren’t going away. These are just hereditary.’ So it’s something that I wanted to fix.”
Discussing her breast augmentation, Simone said: “Not that I didn’t like the way I looked or the way I felt, it’s just something that I notice obviously a little bit more because I live in this body, I’m just so used to it.”
