Zadig & Voltaire Brings the Western Shoe Trend Into Low-Profile Sneakers as Brand Expands in North America

Zadig & Voltaire is getting into the low-profile sneaker trend with the introduction of its latest footwear style.

On Monday, the French contemporary label will launch the new Dance sneaker.

The new low-profile silhouette features another key footwear trend – Western-inspired cut-outs – subtle logo details and a lace-up closure. Crafted from 100 percent cow leather, the sneaker uses leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified facilities and will be sold in three colorways – Denim, Ice White, and Cognac Brown Suede.

The launch comes just months after Zadig & Voltaire expanded its North American footprint with new stores earlier this year. In April, the French company opened a new store in Scottsdale, Ariz., and renovated a unit in Miami’s Design District.

Going forward, Zadig & Voltaire North America chief executive officer Kristen Sosa said in an interview with WWD in April that the company is interested in opening more stores in Texas, Florida and California, as well as Atlanta and Chicago. “There are some interesting projects that are happening in Dallas right now that we have our eye on,” she said.

While direct-to-consumer is the majority of the business, Zadig & Voltaire wholesales its collection at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom, in addition to operating concessions at Bloomingdale’s. It also has a strong A-level specialty store business.

In June, Thierry and Arnaud Gillier, cofounders of Zadig & Voltaire, acquired storied French jewelry and watch house Maison Poiray, as well as fine and costume jewelry brand Aurélie Bidermann.

The acquisitions were made through their holding company, Iéna Investissements, and mark a strategic expansion of the brothers’ footprint in the accessible luxury space beyond fashion.

Both Maison Poiray and Aurélie Bidermann will operate independently from ZV Holding, which oversees Zadig & Voltaire and cashmere label Pellat-Finet.

The new Zadig & Voltaire Dance sneaker, which retails for $328, is now available in the brand’s boutiques and online at zadig-et-voltaire.com.
