Sunita Ahuja has once again spoken candidly about her nearly four-decade-long marriage with Bollywood actor Govinda. Weeks after the Hero No. 1 star said on Prime Video’s talk show Two Much that he “keeps forgiving” his wife for speaking publicly about their relationship, Sunita has now responded with heartfelt reflections on their life together.

In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Sunita revisited the early days of their marriage, highlighting the sacrifices she made while Govinda’s career was taking off. “I’ve done a lot for Govinda. After our marriage, I was sitting mum about it for a year, until Tina (Ahuja) was born,” she revealed. Their marriage, she explained, was kept secret for the first year to protect Govinda’s image and career at the time. During that period, Sunita said she stayed indoors and devoted herself entirely to building their home and future.
Despite the challenges, Sunita expressed no regrets about her choices. She credited Govinda’s late mother, Nirmala Devi, as a pivotal figure in his success story. Acknowledging the hardships Nirmala Devi faced while raising him and helping him enter the film industry, Sunita said that after her passing in 1996, she took on a stronger role in supporting her husband.
Recalling their young marriage, Sunita shared that she was only 18 when she tied the knot, while Govinda was seven years older. “A woman becomes a wife, but also becomes a mother to her husband after a point,” she said, reflecting on how she balanced being a wife, mother, and partner while still maturing herself.
Calling Govinda her closest friend, Sunita emphasized the value of honesty in a relationship. “There should be friendship in a marriage, but it should be rooted in the truth. We should be truthful to each other. That’s how such relations last long,” she said. She also mentioned that she did not always hold it against Govinda for keeping certain things from her, believing he may have done so to protect her, especially because of her health.
However, Sunita did not hold back when responding to Govinda’s recent remarks on Two Much. “I have to ask him, what have I done that you need to forgive me? You’ve committed so many mistakes, but I’ve kept forgiving you,” she stated, indirectly addressing rumours of past conflicts and affairs. She concluded by stressing that while mistakes in youth are common, one must take responsibility as life moves forward.
Through her candid admissions, Sunita offered a rare glimpse into the personal realities of a long-standing marriage in Bollywood one built on love, endurance, forgiveness, and unspoken understanding.
