When Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) became a big hit on its re-release, it was considered a fluke. But its lead actor Harshvardhan Rane silenced one and all with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, which is all set to hit the Rs. 75 crore mark. He’s an outsider who has made it on his own. Yet, one won’t find him talking about the horrors of nepotism. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Harshvardhan Rane spoke more about this aspect.

EXCLUSIVE: Harshvardhan Rane advises aspiring actors not to have irrational fears: “I have 2 purposes in life – gradually dilute impact of the word ‘nepotism’ and dilute concept of pre-release promotions… when I’m gone, I want my legacy to be that…”
Harshvardhan Rane said, “Too much importance is given to this negative word. I want to (remove the fear of it) from the next generation of aspiring actors. When I am invited as a guest lecturer to talk to acting students, they ask more about nepotism than about the craft of acting! They ask me, ‘Acting toh theek hai. Lekin wahaan toh bahut nepotism hai. Uska kya karenge?’. It is deeply embarrassing to see that fear in their eyes.”
He added, “I want them to be fearless and come and try their luck in this industry. It goes without doubt that the process is very tough. However, the discussion is not whether it’s easy or tough. The discussion is that bhai, yahaan kuch nahin ho sakta. I want to remove this fear.”
He continued, “Hence, I have two purposes in my life. Firstly, I want to gradually dilute the impact of the word ‘nepotism’ so that it someday fades into oblivion someday. Nepotism is like an excuse. For example, to avoid getting scolded by the boss, people often claim that they got late due to mad traffic jam. Nepotism is equivalent to the traffic jam excuse.”
Harshvardhan then stated, “Secondly, I want to dilute the concept of pre-release promotions. When KGF – Chapter 1 (2018) was released in Hindi, tab kaunsa promotion hua tha? Tumbbad (2018) wasn’t promoted either. In the beginning of the year, I just posted on Instagram about the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam (2016). When that film could open at Rs. 4 crores just because of one Instagram post, then what is the debate all about? 5 months later, Saiyaara (2025) was released and even they didn’t do the usual promotions. We also didn’t promote before the release. Now, of course, I am out to thank the audience.”
He exulted, “So, these are my purposes. I function with the idea of removing fear. Through my first purpose, I want to remove fear from the minds of aspiring actors. Through my second purpose, I want to remove this idea from the minds of the producers that agar promotion nahin karoge, toh picture nahin chalegi.”
He signed off by saying, “I have never said this before, but whenever I leave this world, I want to leave behind a small legacy that this man always fought the norms of the industry. (smiles).”
