For Punjabi actor Sonam Bajwa, known for her popular Punjabi films such as Carry On Jatta franchise and Godday Godday Chaa (2023), the festival of Gurpurab holds a special place in her heart. Although she never lived in Punjab, the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti has always been an important part of her childhood. “I was born in Uttarakhand and raised in Uttar Pradesh, where my grandparents had settled. I spent most of my childhood between these two states. Every Guru Nanak Jayanti, I clearly remember attending Prabhat Pheris,” she recalled.

Sharing her fondest memories of the festival, the 36-year-old actress said, “I used to be very excited from morning till evening. I always looked forward to the Kada Prasad, boondi, and laddoos. My school had a holiday that day, but we still went out to celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti and offer special prayers. We would spend the whole day enjoying the festivities.”

Sonam also spoke about growing up in a deeply spiritual household. “My mother is an amritdhari. She still does sewa, and I grew up in that environment. I don’t clearly remember doing sewa myself, though,” she said.

One of her favorite memories from Gurpurab was enjoying the langar. “I loved the famous kaali daal and phulkas. Even if you try to make them at home with the same ingredients, they never taste the same,” she smiled.

However, with her busy acting schedule, Sonam admitted that the festival doesn’t feel quite the same anymore. “Festivals would definitely be different if my parents were around. This year, I will be shooting in Punjab on Gurpurab. As an actor, working on festivals, New Year’s, and even birthdays has become quite normal for me over the past few years,” she shared.

This year also marked Sonam Bajwa’s entry into Bollywood, where she appeared in films like Baaghi 4, Housefull 5, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Despite her growing success, her childhood memories of Gurpurab continue to remain close to her heart.
