Taylor Swift gave her stamp of approval to an ultra-trendy footwear aesthetic, snakeskin, when out and about with her friend Gigi Hadid in New York City on Monday. She took on the look with an animal-friendly vegan set of boots from Stella McCartney.

As confirmed by the brand itself on social media, Swift stepped out in the square-toe snake knee-high stiletto boots — which she matched to the Ryder flap crossbody bag, another reptilian-inspired item. The boots are hand-sculpted from Yatay M, a cruelty-free vegan alternative to snakeskin which is mycelium-based. Swift also got in on the autumnal brown trend, as the shoes were a warm chocolate and black colorway called Coffee. The silhouette stood out with a sharp square toe and a stiletto heel. The style is marked at a price of $1,775.

Swift’s stiletto boots went with a black wool peacoat from Auter layered over a plaid miniskirt (or dress) and a dark solid-colored pullover sweater. The musician has showcased a boots-and-plaid combo before — earlier this month in New York, she wore Jennifer Chamandi stiletto boots in camel napa with a tartan Miu Miu miniskirt. Monday’s outing in Stella McCartney boots, however, showed the power of subtly mixing patterns, as her boots served as an unexpected yet complementary reptilian accent to her latest plaid moment.

Snakeskin has emerged as a prominent trend in footwear lately, from celebrities like Swift, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna and Michael B. Jordan taking on the look to a range of brands like Tod’s and Miu Miu reinterpreting it across different silhouettes.
Stylist Phillipe Uter told FN earlier this year, “Snakeskin shoes evoke feelings of empowerment, allure and sensuality, depending on the wearer. Making them not just a trend, but a bold and sexy reflection of personal identity.”
