Queen Letizia of Spain Channels Autumn Florals in Pertegaz

Queen Letizia of Spain revived one of her statement midi dresses by Pertegaz while hosting Oman’s Sultan His Majesty Haitham Bin Tariq and Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman His Majesty Shihab Bin Tarik Al Said for a luncheon alongside King Felipe VI of Spain in Madrid on Tuesday.

For the special, official royal engagement, Queen Letizia turned to one of her dresses from 2019. Spain’s queen consort wore a light gray, floral embroidered midi dress by Pertegaz, featuring a Lavallière detail at the high neckline and a mix of spring and autumnal tones.

The long-sleeve dress featured a barrel sleeve design with cinched cuffs, juxtaposed to the streamlined silhouette of the Pertegaz midi dress with a pencil skirt. The frock featured a slightly cinched waist for extra definition and the playful, feminine Lavallière for structural contrast.

On the bodice and skirt of the dress were pink and red embroidered florals, crafted with precise threading and augmented by mocha leaves. The dress also included white and black smaller floral motifs throughout.

Queen Letizia paired the dress with simple, understated pointed toe black kitten heels to complete her look. She carried that same simplicity through to her accessories, wearing a pair of stud earrings.

Known for her royal rewears, Queen Letizia initially introduced this Pertegaz design in October 2019 while meeting the recipients of the Princess of Asturias Awards. Three years later, Queen Letizia revived the look for the “Miguel de Cervantes” award pre-ceremony luncheon in April 2022.

Manuel Pertegaz founded his eponymous label in the 1940s, opening his first store in Madrid by 1948. At the height of his career, Pertegaz’s designs were so well-regarded that he was considered to takeover Christian Dior’s eponymous label after the French luxury fashion designer’s death in 1957. Pertegaz turned down the opportunity, focusing on his own creations. Manuel Pertegaz died at the age of 96 in August 2014. Jorge Vázquez currently serves as the maison’s creative director.
