Haryana’s Ganaur town was shaken on Monday evening when Ramkaran, a local cricketer and coach, was shot dead in a burst of gunfire near the Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH). The brutal killing is reportedly being linked to a long-standing political feud over municipal elections.
The incident took place outside the hospital, a busy area where several bystanders reportedly witnessed the shooting. According to police sources, the assailants arrived in a vehicle and opened fire at Ramkaran, riddling him with bullets before fleeing the spot. He was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
POLITICAL RIVALRY SUSPECTED
Police believe the attack was the outcome of an ongoing rivalry connected to municipal politics. The victim’s daughter-in-law currently serves as a councillor from Ward No 12, while one of the accused, Sunil “Lambu”, is a former acting chairman of the Ganaur Municipal Council. The two families are said to have been at odds since the last civic elections.
PANIC AND POLICE RESPONSE
The brazen attack sparked panic in the area, with traders downing shutters as police cordoned off the scene. Senior officers from Sonepat police reached the hospital and the crime site soon after the shooting. Forensic teams collected evidence, and CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined.
MURDER CASE REGISTERED
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Ganaur police have registered a case of murder against the accused and begun further investigation. Raids are being conducted to trace the suspects, and additional security has been deployed in the town to prevent any flare-up.
