7 in fray for JNUSU president post as JNU votes today, results on November 6

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is voting today to elect the new Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) for the 2025–26 term. Polling is underway across the campus, with results scheduled for November 6. The Election Committee had announced the tentative timeline on October 23, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated student elections in the country.

The process formally began on October 24 with the release of the tentative voter list. Nomination forms were issued on October 25, followed by the filing of nominations on October 27. The list of valid nominations was displayed on October 28, after which candidates could withdraw their names the same afternoon. The final list of candidates was published later that evening at 7 pm, accompanied by a press briefing.

With polling taking place today, November 4, the results will be declared on November 6.

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL AND LAST YEAR’S PERFORMANCE

Earlier this month, JNU set up a grievance redressal cell to oversee the election process and address any disputes. In the previous elections, left-backed groups won three of the four central panel positions, while the ABVP made a notable comeback by securing the Joint Secretary post after nearly ten years. With both blocs aiming to expand their influence, this year’s contest is expected to be closely fought.

    LEFT-WING ALLIANCE CANDIDATES

The Left alliance, comprising AISA, DSF, and SFI, has put forward a joint panel to challenge the ABVP. Their candidates are:

    • President: Aditi Mishra (PhD, School of International Studies)
    • Vice President: Kizhakoot Gopika Babu
    • General Secretary: Sunil Yadav
    • Joint Secretary: Danish Ali

    RIGHT-WING ABVP PANEL

The ABVP has announced a full panel in its bid to expand last year’s gains. The candidates are:

    • President: Vikas Patel (3rd-year PhD Research Scholar)
    • Vice President: Tanya Kumari (PhD Sociology, CSSS)
    • General Secretary: Rajeshwar Kant Dubey
    • Joint Secretary: Anuj Damara

ALL CANDIDATES ACROSS CENTRAL PANEL POSTS

Seven candidates are contesting for the post of President: Aditi Mishra, Angad Singh, Raj Ratan Rajoriya, Shinde Vijayalaxmi Vyankat Rao, Shirshava Indu, Vikas Patel, and Vikash. In the Vice President category, three candidates are in the fray — Kizhakoot Gopika Babu, Shaikh Shahnawaz Alam, and Tanya Kumari.

The General Secretary race features five contenders: Gopi Krishnan U, Preeti, Rajeshwar Kant Dubey, Shuaib Khan, and Sunil Yadav. For the post of Joint Secretary, the candidates are Anuj, Danish Ali, Kuldeep Ojha, Manmohan Mitruka, and Ravi Raj.

The 2025–26 elections have seen a notable increase in women’s representation. Around 30 percent of the central panel candidates are women, while women account for 25 percent of school councillor nominations.

    RESULTS ON NOVEMBER 6

Voting continues on campus throughout the day. The counting of votes will take place on November 6, after which official results will be declared. Students and observers can check back for updates as the JNUSU 2025–26 results are announced.
