Stern Gayle King fires back at claim she’s leaving ‘CBS Mornings’: ‘They want me here!’

Gayle King sternly fired back at a recent report claiming she’s exiting “CBS Mornings.”

The longtime anchor was spotted leaving the morning show’s New York City studio Friday and said the report is contradictory to what the network has been telling her.

“All I can say is this: From what I’m being told inside this building … all I’ve been told by everybody in this building is that they want me here, they like the job I’m doing, I like the job I’m doing!” King, 70, told an inquiring TMZ pap.

“I’ll say this: I like the job and the people that I work with, so I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know what to tell you about it,” she added.

The broadcast journalist reiterated that what she’s “hearing in the building” is not what she’s “reading in the press.”

“And what I’m not gonna do is negotiate in the media. Not doing that!” she stated as she got into the car that was waiting for her.

When asked whether she has “an idea of what things might look like … if the show’s going in another direction,” King replied, “I have no idea. I have no idea. All I know is I am here. I am here and glad to be here.”

On Thursday, Variety reported that King — who has been the face of “CBS Mornings” for more than a decade — is expected to depart as an anchor of the program next year.

Citing four people with knowledge of the situation, the outlet claimed she may shift to a different role at the news division.

In response to the report, a spokesperson for CBS News said in a statement, “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026.”

The spokesperson called her “a truly valued part of CBS” and insisted that the network looked “forward to engaging with her about the future.”

Reps for King and CBS did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
