Ayushmann Khurrana is gearing up for what he calls a turning point in his career with his latest release, Thamma. The actor, known for his slice-of-life films and socially relevant comedies, describes the project as “the biggest film of my life,” marking a bold shift into darker, unconventional territory.

Ayushmann Khurrana opts for “grey” characters after latest success: “Mein grey roles karna chahta hu”
In a recent interview, Ayushmann opened up about his excitement to play complex characters, saying, “Mein grey roles karna chahta hu.” With Thamma, he ventures into a genre that blends myth, fantasy, and horror a stark departure from his previous work. Portraying a journalist drawn into a supernatural world, Ayushmann embraces the opportunity to redefine his screen image beyond the relatable, everyday man that audiences have come to love.
Speaking to ANI, the actor reflected on his evolving priorities, stating, “Saraswati comes before Lakshmi for me.” He added that his film choices are guided by the story and the people behind it. “I think there are multiple factors that drive an actor to do a film. It’s not just one thing. You look at the director, the producer, and of course, the story. Also, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is one of the most successful franchises in Hindi cinema. I’ve always been a fan of it.”
Film analysts view this decision as a natural evolution for the 2020s actor. Having already earned praise for roles in films that dealt with anxiety, identity and societal pressures, this next step toward darker shades could broaden his range and open up different genres.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal.
