On Tuesday evening, the industry came out to celebrate the annual WWD Honors, which this year recognized Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, Sarah Burton, Willy Chavarria, Patrica Louvet, Veronica Beard, Tapestry Inc., Peach & Lily, Tag Heuer, Tiffany & Co. and Interparfums Inc.
Anne Hathaway was on hand to present Giammetti with the night’s biggest honor, the John B. Fairchild Honor.
“I am wearing Valentino archival couture, which is an amazing thing to be able to say,” Hathaway said of her gown, in a signature Valentino red hue. “And I hope I’m getting this right but I think this dress was shown in 2005, which was actually the year that I met Valentino and Giancarlo. We met on ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ They made a cameo and they spent the morning with us. I had an amazing time — I was kind of starstruck.”
Hathaway has had many major moments in Valentino over her career, so much so that it was hard to pick a favorite.
“I’ve been so fortunate and I’ve gotten to wear so many,” she said. “I did wear a beautiful archival piece to the Met Gala the year that punk was the theme. But how can I say anything other than my wedding dress?”
Wearing Valentino to her 2012 wedding was nothing short of a “fairy tale.”
“I was too shy to ask [for a dress] and he offered, which was such an unbelievably generous thing to do,” she said of Garavani dressing her.

Other guests included Colman Domingo, Iman, Jeremy Pope, Karen Elson, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ariana Greenblatt, AnnaSophia Robb, Ella Emhoff, Laverne Cox, Suni Lee, Ego Nwodim, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Sidney Toledano, Michael Burke, David Lauren, Lauren Bush Lauren and more.
Pope presented Chavarria with his award for menswear designer of the year.
“I love what he does, I love how he challenges the silhouettes of menswear. I feel very taken care of,” he said of the designer. “He actually was my seatmate at the Met Gala; we shared a salad and chicken bites. It runs deep.”

Smith was dressed head to toe in a Thom Browne look, complete with a leather Hector bag.
“I don’t really know how to name what I’m drawn to. I like a lot of earth tones and I like Thom Browne because it’s this kind of dapper, classy vibe,” the actor said. “But this also has a streetwear element to it and I like that balance.”
Robb was dressed in a vintage Vivienne Westwood black gown that was perfectly themed for Halloween week.
“There was a cape situation we decided against it, it was a little too Halloween-y,” she said.
Not that she’s against dressing for the holiday. “I’m creating my costume now — I went to Sephora earlier today and got some glitter,” she said.

Nwodim’s plans for Halloween remain more activity focused than costume.
“I keep telling my friend, ‘I want to make a spooky sangria.’ What the f–k does that even mean?” the former “SNL” star said. “I keep going, ‘Let’s make spooky sangria and watch ‘Hocus Pocus’ or ‘Practical Magic.’”
