Actor Vivek Oberoi, who has been part of some of Bollywood’s most memorable films over the past two decades, recently spoke about the much-anticipated Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Vivek shared his admiration for the ambitious scale of the project and its potential to place Indian cinema on the global map.

“What Namit (Malhotra, producer) and Nitesh (Tiwari, director) are doing is that through Ramayana, they are truly taking Bhartiya cinema to the global stage,” Vivek said. “Ramayana is going to be India’s answer to Hollywood epics. It helps that they are associated with a company who has won almost seven to eight Oscars in VFX, and they have already done such iconic stuff. To take in a truly Indian-rooted epic, it can’t get bigger and better than Ramayana and to actually take it to the global sphere, that’s what’s exciting.”
The film, which went on floors in April 2024, stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Ravie Dubey in key roles. Though the makers have remained tight-lipped about specific details, Ramayana has been confirmed as a two-part saga, with Part I slated for release in 2026 and Part II in 2027. Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus and directed by Dangal filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, the film promises to blend mythological storytelling with cutting-edge visual effects.
On the work front, Vivek will next be seen in Mastii 4, the fourth instalment of the popular adult comedy franchise. Reuniting with co-stars Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, and writer-director Milap Milan Zaveri, the actor described the experience as a joyful reunion.
“It was like a homecoming, a reunion of schoolmates. It has been 21 years since we did the first film and the chemistry, the timing with Riteish, Aftab and Milap, who is directing and writing this one, it was amazing. It was iconic and so much fun,” Vivek shared.
