25 years ago, Hrithik Roshan became a star with the blockbuster success of his first film – Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). It also led to a brilliant partnership between him and his filmmaker-father Rakesh Roshan. They worked on three more films – Koi Mil Gaya (2003), Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013) – and all three of them were huge hits. However, many are not aware that Rakesh Roshan directed Hrithik not four but five times and this was revealed in Komal Nahta’s Film Information Magazine’s October 7, 2000 issue.

The magazine mentioned that a Coca-Cola ad, which was launched in September that year, featured Hrithik, and that it was directed by none other than Rakesh Roshan. The article further said that he has been flooded with congratulatory calls since the ad has come out very well. Moreover, it also featured that he has been getting many more offers to direct television commercials.
How did he come on board? The filmmaker replied, “They asked me if I would like to direct. I said, ‘Yes, I’ll do it’. As simple as that (smiles).”
Rakesh Roshan continued, “The experience was great. Of course, it was different from shooting a film. The edit is different; the timing is short, and you have to convey the message in seconds. It’s a different format. I sat with the scriptwriters. We finished the shoot in 2-3 days.”
Did he film any more ads after this experience? He answered, “No, I didn’t.”
On Rajesh Roshan’s health scare
Bollywood Hungama was the first one to reveal that Rakesh Roshan’s brother, composer Rajesh Roshan, underwent an open-heart surgery a couple of weeks ago. When asked how he was doing, Rakesh Roshan said, “He’s doing well. He has come home and is absolutely fine.”
Rajesh Roshan went for a health check-up and, during which the doctors discovered blockages in his heart. They advised him to undergo surgery. In July this year, Rakesh Roshan had also undergone a medical procedure after a routine check-up revealed more than 75% blockage in the carotid arteries leading to the brain. He was immediately hospitalized and, after successful treatment, was discharged within a couple of days.
Both Rajesh and Rakesh Roshan’s recent health scares served as a timely reminder of how crucial regular medical check-ups are, even for those who appear perfectly healthy. Rakesh Roshan agreed, “That’s true. We are fortunate that we got some signal and we decided to go and check ourselves.”
