Can Bangladesh beat India? Sobhana Mostary confident before Navi Mumbai clash

Sobhana Mostary said that Bangladesh will look to make use of their experience of playing against India when the two teams meet in the Women’s World Cup clash on Sunday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. In Women’s ODIs, the Tigresses have lost six out of eight games against the Women in Blue, winning only one, while one of the games in 2023 in Mirpur ended in a tie.

The upcoming game won’t have any impact on semi-final qualification. While India are through and will finish fourth, Bangladesh are looking to avoid ending at the bottom of the table. Mostary, who has scored 169 runs with two fifties, acknowledged that India are a strong team but also emphasized Bangladesh’s aim to finish the tournament on a positive note.

“Yes, India has performed very well in this tournament. They are a strong team. After losing the last match, we took a two-day break and then discussed how, since it’s the last match of the tournament, we could finish on a high note,” Mostary said in the pre-match press conference.

“For the batters, we looked at our mistakes and how to correct them so they don’t happen in the next match. We have played India in both India and Bangladesh, so we have good experience, and we hope to use that experience in our bowling attack and batting.”

    JOTY IS A CALM CAPTAIN

Mostary also heaped praise on Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty for guiding her team and motivating the players to perform at their best.

“Joty Apu, as captain, has played for a long time over the past ten years, and she’s very calm. In terms of experience, she guides us, showing us how to bowl and bat, and she also comes to support us personally. She would tell us not to worry. She always speaks to both juniors and seniors. If Joty says good things to me, it motivates me to play well. Joty Apu is always calm as captain,” Mostary added.

Bangladesh started their campaign with a win against Pakistan but lost momentum thereafter. They were knocked out after a seven-run defeat to Chamari Athapaththu’s Sri Lanka, where Jyoti’s valiant 77 off 98 balls went in vain.
