Marcus Rashford, the England international, has spoken about his transition from Manchester United to Barcelona, where he is currently on a season-long loan. Rashford, who spent his entire professional career at United prior to his move, stated that the change has offered him a renewed perspective on his football journey. He accepted a pay cut to facilitate the transfer, with Barcelona covering his wages and an option to buy set at approximately 30 million euros.
After reviving his form with a short loan at Aston Villa, Rashford has thrived under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 12 appearances across all competitions. His performances have come ahead of what is expected to be his first El Clasico, marking another significant milestone in his career.
During his unveiling, Rashford addressed questions about his departure from Manchester United, referencing the club’s period of transition. “The situation with United is that the club is in a period of change, and they have been for a while,” Rashford said. “I don’t have anything bad to say about Manchester United. It’s been an important part of not only my career but just my life.”
Rashford further expressed his appreciation for the opportunities he received at Old Trafford, saying, “I am grateful for the opportunities to play for them. But football is the same as life, and not everything goes as simply as you may have thought. This is my next step, my next chapter, and I’m fully focused on this, trying to improve myself and help the team bring trophies.”
Responding to comments from former England striker Gary Lineker, who said, “it was United that was the problem, not Rashford,” the 27-year-old avoided controversy and reiterated his focus on his new club. “That’s where I’m focused right now. I don’t have anything to say about Manchester United and hope that they’re successful in the future,” he said.
Rashford has indicated his desire to extend his stay in Spain, telling ESPN, “For sure,” when asked about remaining at Barcelona beyond his loan. He added, “I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player it is an honour.” Reflecting on his long association with United, Rashford said, “People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and I’m enjoying everything,” he said.
